Blown-In Insulation in Colorado

Complete coverage for maximum efficiency

If you have an under-insulated attic, drafty walls, or hard-to-reach spaces that need coverage, blown-in insulation is the most cost-effective insulation upgrade available to most Colorado homeowners. It installs fast, conforms to every irregular shape in your attic, and delivers a meaningful R-value increase without tearing your home apart.

Level Up Insulation Co. installs blown-in insulation in attics, walls, and floor cavities across Colorado. We’re BPI certified, an Xcel Energy rebate partner, and we almost always recommend pairing blown-in installation with professional attic air sealing — because insulation without air sealing leaves the most important problem unsolved.

What Is Blown-In Insulation?

Blown-in insulation — also called loose-fill insulation — is installed using a professional blowing machine that sprays loose insulation material into attic floors, wall cavities, and other spaces. Unlike spray foam insulation that air-seals as it insulates, or batt insulation that must be precisely cut and fitted, blown-in conforms to any shape — filling around joists, pipes, wiring, and every awkward corner your attic throws at it.

Two types are commonly used in Colorado:

Both types can reach the R-49 to R-60 target required by Colorado’s 2021 IECC energy code for Front Range attics. If your goal is maximum pest deterrence alongside insulation performance, ask us about pest control insulation (TAP) — it uses the same blown-in process with EPA-registered borate treatment.

Benefits of Blown-In Insulation for Colorado Homes

Where Is Blown-In Insulation Used?

For crawl spaces specifically, blown-in insulation in floor cavities is only a partial solution. A complete crawl space encapsulation addresses the moisture problem that makes blown-in floor insulation less effective in the first place.

What R-Value Do I Need in Colorado?

Colorado’s 2021 IECC energy code recommends the following for Front Range attics:
Most Colorado homes built before 2005 have R-19 or less in the attic — well below code. Our assessment team measures your current R-value during the free estimate and calculates exactly how many inches of blown-in you need to reach your target.

Blown-In vs. Spray Foam: Which Is Right for Your Attic?

Spray foam insulation provides superior air-sealing and a higher R-value per inch — it’s the right choice when you need a conditioned attic assembly, moisture control at the roof deck, or maximum performance in a limited space. Blown-in insulation provides excellent R-value per dollar for attic floor applications, especially when combined with proper attic air sealing first. The combination of air sealing + blown-in delivers 85–90% of the energy performance benefit of spray foam at a significantly lower installation cost. For most Colorado homeowners upgrading an existing attic, that’s the right call.

How Much Does Blown-In Insulation Cost in Colorado?

Xcel Energy rebates are available for qualifying blown-in insulation projects in Colorado. Level Up Insulation handles all rebate paperwork as a registered partner. If you’re also considering insulation removal before re-insulating, we handle both in sequence and provide a combined project estimate.

What Our Customers ask

Blown-In Insulation FAQs

Yes — and this is the most common approach for attic upgrades in Colorado. No removal is necessary unless existing insulation is water damaged, mold contaminated, or pest contaminated. If removal is needed, see our insulation removal services page for details. In most cases, we simply blow new material on top.
20–30 years with normal performance. Cellulose can settle 15–20% over time — which is factored into installation depth. Fiberglass settles less. Neither type degrades in performance when installed in a dry, properly air-sealed attic.
Not on its own. Blown-in adds thermal resistance but doesn’t seal the air leaks causing drafts. For drafty homes, the answer is always attic air sealing first, then blown-in insulation on top. The combination is the correct solution — and it’s what we recommend and install together.
